Benefits of hypnotherapy training with the IAPH

On successful completion of the Diploma in Hypnotherapy (or final examination) you would be accepted for Membership of the International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts, a recognized Professional Association - this would not normally be readily available to you, and breaches what is often a "closed shop" policy. The IAPH is certainly Europe's largest, and arguably most successful, group of Hypno-analysts. You will benefit from...

  • Access to regional meetings; private online forums; Annual conference;
  • Seminars with practical hypnosis training at various hotel venues throughout the UK
  • Ongoing advanced training for those seeking further instruction - leading to an 'Advanced Certificate' including modules such as Forensic Hypnosis, Psychiatry, Listening skills, Body Language and more...
  • Opportunity to attend the biggest IAPH event - the Annual Conference of hypnotherapists with hundreds of people from the UK travelling to attend two day lectures on all aspects of hypnosis, therapy, mind and body and more...

You will have gained insight into the use of Hypnosis, knowledge of the development and functioning of the human psyche, and an awareness of nervous disorders, their causes and effects, certainly sufficient to have gained greater insight into yourself and to be of benefit to your fellows. (Certainly sufficient to ensure that you do no harm to your fellows). You will be well equipped to commence a Practice should you so desire.

The course also explains the British Law relating to establishing a Private Practice, warns of various pitfalls and counsels how to proceed. There is a tremendous public interest in "alternative medicine", and the opportunities are many and exciting. However, to successfully complete the Course will involve you in a lot of studying, some writing (as there are Examinations during the Course) and a degree of mental self-discipline.

I’ve really enjoyed your course. It’s well worth every penny and I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. It’s answered or confirmed a lot of ideas. Very enlightening.

Can I sample the course materials without paying the full fees?
Yes, you can pay for the modules in stages allowing you to 'test the water' so to speak. Please see course fees for details.

Does the course cover all aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
The Course is very thorough - to the extent that the qualified student should then possess a greater knowledge of Hypnosis than the average Stage Hypnotist, and a greater knowledge of character and behavior formation than the average Doctor.

Many different techniques of Hypnosis and behavior remedial therapies utilizing Hypnosis are covered - the predominant one being the use of Analysis under Hypnosis to discover and remove the cause of nervous disorders.

Who can study, and do I need previous experience?
No special academic or other qualifications are necessary - just a genuine desire to learn, and an interest in people. Your race, color or creed are incidental to your studies - Ministers of Religion have enjoyed the Course - likewise many nationalities.

Can I make a reasonable income in private practice?
Any student progressing into Private Practice in the UK ought to confidently expect an income of at least £20,000 p.a. if working part time for a couple of hours per day, and obviously considerably more than that figure if he/she devotes themselves full-time. Attracting clients is not generally a problem (as a point of interest, if I do an "anti smoking" session I include a post-hypnotic suggestion NOT to recommend me to their friends - otherwise one can be inundated).

Is there any communication with tutors?
If you have any query or point of contention I will answer it as honestly and openly as I can - by phone, e-mail, or post. If you want to meet me before, during or after the Course, you are most welcome (by appointment please) at my Consulting Rooms in Cambridge.

Every student gets individual attention. (As an indication of the extent, it takes an average of three hours to mark and annotate each final Test Exercise).

What happens when I pass the final exam?
I will propose any successful student to Membership of the International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts, who will also arrange Professional Indemnity Insurance within the UK, and I will give all possible advice and assistance to establish in Practice - as well as any ongoing counselling necessary.

What do you expect from me?
If you decide to enroll on the Course, complete the Questionnaire as frankly and openly as possible.

What is the future of hypnotherapy?
In my capacity as Administrator of Europe's largest group of Hypno-analysts, I am frequently asked to express an opinion about the possible ramifications of the 1992 European Free Trade Area. Naturally one can only speculate, but nothing that I have seen, beard, or read so far has given me any indication for concern about the practice of hypnotherapy. The Baroness Hooper in her statement to the House of Lords on May 9th made it clear that the British Government has no intention whatsoever of interfering with the right - at Common Law - of a British subject to seek therapy from whomsoever desired. The same speech urged the various Therapies to 'get their act in order' and denied any attempt by Brussels to exert control. This reflected my own view that all the 'scare mongering' has been done solely by self-aggrandizing people with a vested interest. Without wishing to single out individuals; it naturally follows that if you were head of a multi-discipline organization of alternative therapies, it would ensure your future as an organization if you were banded together by some common cause and to 'fight the good fight' against the oppressor. The good Baroness made it very clear that government policy was not to seek dialogue with any organization purporting to represent all of the alternative therapies (1CM, CCAM, etc ) but rather to look to each therapy to be self-regulating.

A recent Government statement has predicted "no change" in the status of alternative practitioners. Napoleonic Law (as exists throughout much of Europe) does not contain many of the inalienable freedoms that exist from the Common Law of Britain, and inevitably - in the fullness of time, many anomalies will have to be removed if we are to peacefully coexist. The concept that a qualified (say) Solicitor of (say) England, should, by virtue of his British qualification, be able to practice anywhere in Europe, has already been adjudged to be a prerequisite for such harmony. However, it is relatively easy to define a 'solicitor' and nearly as easy to adjudge his qualifications and training. Not so 'hypnotherapist' - which as a profession does not even exist!! The way forward may well be to establish an NVQ (National Vocational Quotient) for Hypnotherapy, and to seek some form of voluntary State Registration, and much preparatory work has already been undertaken. The situation is constantly monitored and under constant review, but I reiterate that I see no threat to the future of Hypnotherapy and the lay practice of same.

Best Wishes for your future training...
